Teacambs gathering – Thurs 27 September

by on 23 September 2012

Hello everyone

Hope you all had a nice summer break.

This month’s Teacambs will be at 4:30pm in the John Lewis Cafe in Cambridge on the top floor. Spot Puffles the dragon fairy to find us!

Teacambs kicks off what looks like being a jam-packed season of activity where we ask the question:

How can we ensure our social media operation complements our offline activities, and vice-versa?

This is the ultimate goal of social media for organisations. All-too-often social media functions sit in isolation from what the rest of the organisation is doing, rather than being an integral part of it.

This question raises a number of issues – from how your senior management communicate with staff and the outside world, to empowering front-line staff to run their own social and digital media accounts. For example do local authorities trust their front line staff that run community centres to manage social media accounts and fan pages for the centres? Just over a year ago I visited one local authority who at the time had blocked all social media access for their staff. I’m glad to say that this picture is changing across local government in particular.

As a very early “heads up” two of the finest digital and social media users in the public sector, Dan Slee and Ann Kempster are organising CommsCamp 2013 early in the new year. It is aimed at public sector communications and social media users. If that sounds like you, please please please sign up! At these events we tend to have a minimal presence from Cambridgeshire. Let’s make this event the turning point!

The event is free, will be in Birmingham and most likely on a Saturday – though Dan and Ann will confirm the final details soon. The advantage of having such events on a weekend is you end up with people who are REALLY passionate about the issues concerned – i.e. they’ll give up a weekend for it. Your favourite dragon fairy Puffles went up to a similar event in Birmingham earlier this year.
